Dimaag ka Dahi - Life Pre-written??

Several years back, my uncle passed a statement very casually during one of our family parties. He said "There are no coincidences in life. Everything is already written somewhere". My dad and uncles discussed on that topic for a while and then moved on to other things. But that statement stuck with me. I started thinking and re-thinking about it. I discussed it with friends/family on different occassions just to get their point of view. I would ask them "Do you believe that our life has already been written by God?" Most of the people completely rejected the theory, "No way!" they said. One of my American roommates asked, "So are you trying to say that this conversation that I'm having with you right now is also written?" I said "Maybe, I'm not sure." She said, "If we think like that then life would be so boring". Well, in a way it would be but then we don't really know whats written, do we? So how could it be boring?
Today, I had a long discussion with my hubby over this. He too like most people rejected it. At first he asked me, "It was my decision to do post-grad. What if I had decided not to do it?". That made me wonder if God had written our life in the form of 'If and Then' statements. So if B does this, then his life would be like this, else if he does that, then his life would be like that...??
I think in astrology its said that the left hand is the one you are born with and the right hand is the one you make and its the reverse for guys. So the lines on the right hand change according to the decision you make in life? So is there a pre-decided path that God would like us to take but then we have the power to change things i.e. follow the 'else if' statements??
Hubby asked, "To which extent do you think its all pre-written? Are our thoughts and conversations also pre-written? Are all the inventions also already pre-decided? Did God write the story of Star Wars ??" No Idea!
Well, but there are some good astrologers who can predict our futures. What about them? How can they predict my future if it hasn't been decided already?
But then it struck me that the predicted futures only give an outline of how our life might be. Like the important milestones in our life. Panditji (astrologer) might say "You will get married at this age, have a son at this age, another one at this age. You will go abroad..etc etc." So its possible that only the outline of our life is written and not each and every detail. But then God has written each and every detail about each and every organ of our body, how it functions, the beating heart and so on. So to what extent have things been pre-written? Only God knows! (literally).
So finally, hubby and I concluded that before I do any more 'dimaag ka dahi' ( its a purely Bambaiyya term), we should Stop. SO here I am trying to make a dimaag ka dahi of the readers :)

p.s. Do tell me what your views are on this topic.

I used to also ponder upon this as I do have an interest in all things occult.I believe that we all have a basic pre ordained blue print;as in a predicted tendency. But in the end it is the choices we make that make our destiny.
Interesting topic, we should discuss this at length sometime...

Your theory is interesting Avanti. So an outline is given to us and then we decide which path to follow. Yup, I love such kind of discussions.

What a surprise! Are you in Singapore now?

Have you ever pondered on this statement "in life there are no accidents" and also life is nothing but choices and every choice has it's consequences. If you have the time please watch these movies...

1. Matrix (Part 1, 2, & 3)
2. Apocalypto by Mel Gibson

Then maybe you can let me know what you feel.

I always believe that we have our destiny written before we came to this world. We come here with all our karma in our hands, we are just doing what god has ordained for us.and thats the reason no point in woprrying about anything, what will happen will happen, but it doesnt mean we must stop working or using our mind or discretion.

Hi,
I hate to be the sound of discord in this musing, but I thought that I would pay back the courtesy by opining here. Fatalistic philosophy is like a placebo to a mind seeking logic in a chaotic life. But the premise of this very thinking is based on a non logical thought, like building a castle in the air, because a castle is a secure place and seems like a logical and wonderful idea. But at the very core it only satisfies the ego. Consider our importance in proportion to the entire cosmos. There are billions of planets and stars across un countable light years, all moving in such a chaotic dance, that at any moment our existence will merely be a wisp of smoke in the memory of the cosmos. When one thinks in such scale, the thought that some one is personally interested in every moment of an atom, to explain the logic ness of our lives, is quite comforting but naive.

mmm made me sit and think....
no not every detail will be written...then there is nothing called as a judegement day..god shudnt judge sinners and puritans differently coz their actiions are pre written.. thn in that case i am a sinner not because of me but because of my god..so God shudnt punish me...well can i say this then :-)

Radha: yes I am :)

Sukku: Will check out your blog. Have watched both those movies.

Renu: I agree that some things are never within our control, so no point worrying about it.

ThoughtRoom: Thats why HE is God, because even the tiniest of beings is significant. I believe that nothing is insignificant in this world, even the tiniest atom is as important as the planet Mars :)

Entertainer: I don't know about judgement day. How do you know that God punishes the sinners? And in what way? As Avanti said, maybe we have a choice, maybe life is made up of 'If and then' statements based on which path a person takes. Who knows :)

human beings think they must make the choice to believe in something to avoid becoming 'shallow' but this is a conventional way of thinking and most human beings have had this instilled into them at a very young age. primary and secondary socialisation ties with this as this is when a humans mind is at stake. people may choose to believe whatever they want but from my ccollation of research which mostly includes david icke, vibrational energy and sociology, i can say with heart that the human mind is programmed to dislike any 'material' limitations which leads to pressure from unknown and hateful sources for you to conform to this unseemingly negative way of thinking. you must find whatever truth you find their is to find and you should always leave your mind open to the right things and closed to the wrong. right and wrong in the way which focuses you the most on achieveing inner enlightenment.
